World Heart Day - Can we get Eco-friendly there?

Sep 29, 2024

Every year the world comes together on the 29th of September to spread awareness on heart health. This year, why not celebrate it differently?

There is a connection between a healthy heart and a healthy environment. What you breathe in says a lot about your lungs and the air around you. So why not build a pollution-free nature for a pollutant-free heart?

Walks in Parks

Brisk walks and jogs are one of the easiest exercises one can do at any point of the day. But they don’t seem very relaxing on busy roads, right? Rather than grooving to your favorite tunes on your headphones, you would be busy swerving off incoming vehicles! That’s why, building green spaces can help. Rather than architecting skyscrapers, parks can do us more good. Amid the concrete jungle, breathe in the fresh air and take relaxing walks in green spaces populated by trees. To turn this into a fun venture, kick-start tree planting drives to improve air quality and build a pollution-free ecosystem for a healthy heart!

Eat a Rainbow

The best way to have a good heart (metaphorically and literally!) is to eat a rainbow; plant-based diet over junk. A plate full of green leafy vegetables promotes a healthy cardiovascular ecosystem while also ridding the nature of carbon emissions, which means -

Salad over fries

Simple Home-made Curd or Greek yogurt over ice cream/sour cream

Grilled/sauteed over fried

Air-popped popcorn over chips

Herbs over salt

Active Transportation

Whenever possible, ditch the lavish cars and get on a cycle or public transport or simply walk to stay in shape! Not only will it help you achieve your “dream body” but also the environment to achieve its “dream ecosystem”! Organizing cycling events and community walks can be a great way to raise awareness for a healthy, beating heart. And let’s face it, cycling and walking events are a great way to unite people and ignite a sense of belongingness!

Stress-free Activities

Imagine being surrounded by trees, meditating amid the lush greenery, and breathing in the fresh air. There is a sense of tranquillity felt when you shut out the noises of the outside world and embrace a stress-free yoga regime. This is a great time to be one with nature, appreciate the importance of the greenery, and also feel relieved from the inside out. Physiologically, stress-free activities like yoga and meditation can help destress and help improve blood flow keeping cardiovascular functions sound.

By connecting environmental efforts with World Heart Day, you can promote a holistic approach to health that encompasses both personal well-being and the health of our planet!

Celebrate World Heart Day, Celebrate Nature!
